40,000 Colombian Flowers Embellish Royal Wedding of Sweden’s Princess Victoria
One of Europe’s biggest royalevents of 2010 - the June wedding of Sweden’s Princess
Victoria to entrepreneur Daniel Westling in Stockholm - was made all the more
elegant by the addition of 40,000 flowers from Colombia, each hand-picked from
among the country’s most prized roses, mini-roses, carnations, lilies and
hydrangeas.
From March to June 2010, New York City residents and visitors were offered a
special treat: videos and images of flower bouquets on CBS’ Super Screen - the
giant electronic billboard in Times Square - reminding them of the “Power of
Flowers.”
Colombian roses have long played a starring role in Valentine’s and Mother’s Day
bouquets in the United States. Now, Colombian roses are also taking center stage at
other major American events, including Hollywood premieres, such as “Valentine’s
Day,” a movie that opened in February starring Julia Roberts, Anne Hathaway,
Jessica Biel, Jennifer Garner, Ashton Kutcher and Jamie Foxx.More than 15,000 roses
were shipped from Colombia for this special occasion.
